What’s in a name? In the case of the Nelson Rectangular Swag Leg Dining Work Table from Herman Miller, it’s the construction method! Designed in 1954 by renowned creator George Nelson, it uses “Swaging,” or the tapering and bending of metal tubes through pressure, to create the cleverly-curved metal legs that support the crisp corners of the rectangular tabletop above. As with the rest of Nelson’s designs, it’s forward-looking and human-focused, with the legs reinforced partway up their length with a wooden cross-brace that still leaves room for knees and feet below.
